On Wednesday, 3rd December, the Meiwa Junior High School District Consultation was held at Mihato Elementary School under the theme ‘Meiwa Junior High School District is Global!’. ANIC delivered a talk and exercises on easy-to-understand Japanese. We first explained why easy-to-understand Japanese is necessary and methods for oral and written translation. This was followed by group work.

We created two tasks using materials submitted in advance by members of the Meiwa Junior High School District community, challenging participants to translate them into easy-to-understand Japanese.

Two ANIC Easy-to-Understand Japanese Supporters circulated among the groups, offering brief guidance.

Each group worked quickly to refine their translations, aiming to make them accessible to foreign nationals, and then presented their work. The instructor praised them highly, commenting, ‘They were very decisive,’ and ‘It was well organised.’ Participants shared feedback such as, ‘I wish we could have done more,’ and ‘I’d like to hear more about the realities on the ground.’
