On Sunday, 18th May, the “2025 Gathering to Discuss Japanese Language Education in Tokyo” was held at the Tokyo Job Center in Iidabashi.

The event was held under the theme of “Considering diversifying learning environments in the face of a dramatic increase in children with foreign connections,” and was attended by approximately 120 people, including Japanese language instructors at schools, Japanese language volunteers in the community, and people from local governments and related persons to Association for Nakano International Communications(ANIC).

After talking about the night junior high school’s initiatives and the activities of “Mintuku!”, an organization set up by citizens involved in supporting children of foreign origins in Toshima Ward, Kana Suzuki, who is an ANIC staff and also is the Multicultural Kids Coordinator, spoke about her role on a Tokyo Metropolitan Government-subsidized program, outlining the project and the efforts made by Association for Nakano International Communications.

The role of multicultural kids coordinators varies depending on the region, but is gradually expanding across Tokyo from 2023.
