On Saturday, 26th December 2025, we participated in the Nankouchoukai Neighborhood Association’s year-end night patrol with members of the Friday Volunteers. We walked around the area near Nakano Station’s south exit, clapping wooden clappers and chanting ‘Fire safety!’ It was an experience of a uniquely Japanese winter tradition.  Chinese participants gave us their feedback: ‘I believe the custom of night patrols has been passed down for generations. That such activities continue today, raising awareness of winter fire safety, feels very positive in terms of preserving traditional culture and customs.’ At the end, we presented sweets to the children.
